Preparing Your Brochure File

The first thing you need to do when making a brochure is build your file to the correct size. The next step, no matter the size you choose, allow 1/8th inch of space between your type and where your file will be trimmed. If your file has folds, for example, 11 x 8.5 Tri-fold, make sure to designate space for the three columns. You should always take into consideration where these folds are so that you don't have important body copy on the fold lines.

If your file has bleed (text or graphics that extends all the way to the edge of the paper), allow 1/8th inch to extend past the trim. Having trouble building or exporting a file with bleed? Try building your file a quarter inch larger. This making a 11 x 8.5 brochure 11.25 x 8.75. Our prepress department will see the adjustment and will center your file back onto a trim size of 11 x 8.5.

Preferred file type is a high-resolution (300dpi) PDF file.
